Second-generation Audi Allroad will go into production

Audi has given the go-ahead to a second-generation version of its handsome A6 Avant-based Allroad crossover vehicle.

Some 90,000 Allroad quattros have been produced since the current car’s launch in 2000, though there is a limited number of new cars still on sale in the UK for those who can’t wait until the new car is launched in mid-2006.

The styling is expected to differ little from the Allroad Quattro Concept presented at the Detroit Auto Show earlier this year, with a debut likely at the Geneva motor show next March. The new car will feature the same permanent four-wheel drive and air suspension with variable ground clearance as the current Allroad, with an uprated engine range likely to include 3.0-litre V6 turbodiesel and 3.2 FSI and 4.2 V8 petrols.

Other engines that could follow after the launch include a 2.7-litre diesel and the mighty 4.2-litre V8 oil-burner from the A8. Like the existing car, the new Allroad will be built at Audi’s Neckarsulm plant, expect prices to differ little from equivalently-powered A6 Avant models.
