New French president Emmanuel Macron driven to inauguration in special edition DS 7 Crossback, featuring opening roof, gold detailed 20in wheels, flag holders and ‘Black Art’ leather interior

The DS 7 Crossback had its first public outing yesterday - with new French president Emmanuel Macron on board at his inauguration on Sunday.

As the long-standing car manufacturer of choice amongst French presidents, DS created a specially modified version for the new president's traditional drive down the Champ Elysees during his inauguration ceremony.

The brand’s first SUV for the European market was unveiled at this year’s Geneva motor show. A team of DS engineers and craftsmen worked for seven months to create the Presidential DS 7 Crossback. The uniquely spec’d model boasts custom-made opening roof to facilitate crowd waving, 20in gold detailed wheels, ‘Black Art interior’ and unique Ink Blue paint finish.

Customer deliveries of the DS 7 Crossback will begin in January 2018, but the closest you’ll get to Presidential is the high specification La Premiere which is Limited Edition and only available to order in 2017.

The Presidential DS 7 Crossback is currently displayed for the public at DS World, Paris.

Can there be......?

The Car World wants us all in SUV's of all shapes and sizes, why?, we live on and Island so we are never more than 70 odd miles from a Coast, average Family is four or five, most are seen with only the Driver, what is the reason for wanting us in Vehicles we will never utilise properly most of the time?

I wish I knew, Peter.

All I wish for is a large Citroën estate to waft me and my Paraphernalia around in comfort (she's Greek, you know). Sigh.

'The Car World' is only reacting...

...to what customers want and manufacturers would be foolish to ignore that. The majority of SUVs are front driven as it's clear that buyers of these vehicles want the higher driving position and practicality without the go-anywhere ability of four-wheel drive. I don't see anything wrong with that and as I value driving enjoyment above all else, I wouldn't personally buy one (not for the foreseeable future at any rate), but I can't quite understand why these vehicles offend so many people. Also, they don't take up any more road space than family saloons and hatchbacks, most of which are also only seen with the driver because they are used for the daily commute.

The reason is personal choice. Not everyone wants what you want. Many buyers want SUVs. It's not a hard concept, surely.

M Macron's DS7 Crossback

It's a bit of a coup for PSA to have M Macron being driven round Paris in a DS7 Crossback. I always new that it's full length sunroof had some purpose. But it's not a patch on the special Citroen DS & SM's that Henri Chaperon created for Charles De Gaulle & Georges Pompidou now is it,does anyone know what the miltary vehicle that M Macron is being driven around in during the military parade the same day

The military vehicle M.

The military vehicle M. Macron was in was an ACMAT VLRA Command Car. French, of course.
