All 500 units of the McLaren 675 LT Spider have been sold, just two weeks after the reveal of the limited-run drop-top

All 500 units of the McLaren 675LT Spider have sold out, even though it was only officially revealed on 3 DecemberThe news comes ahead of the car's first official outing - an appearance at the Geneva motor show in March 2016.

At £285,450, the Spider is £28,000 more expensive than the coupé 675LT; it has the same 2.9sec 0-62mph sprint, with only a 2mph decrease in top speed compared with the coupé.

Although the Spider is fitted with the same 3.8-litre V8 engine as the coupe, it has a long list of revised mechanicals, including weight-saving components and more efficient turbochargers. It maintains the same 666bhp power output, and 515lb ft of torque, with fuel economy of 24.1mpg and emissions of 275g/km.

The roof of the Spider - a three-piece folding hardtop - can be operated at speeds of up to 19mph. Although the Spider weighs 40kg more than the coupé, it is 100kg lighter overall than the 650S Spider.

Despite the usual strengthenings associated with the conversion from coupé to convertible, McLaren said that its carbon tub was strong enough to warrant no additional structure during the convertible's development.

To celebrate the sell-out success of the 675LT Spider, McLaren has released a new video of the car in action on road and track:
