Currently reading: New Focus starts from £10k

Prices for the new Ford Focus have revealed that the hatch will take on all-comers in its pursuit of next year’s C-segment sales honours, armed with a raft of trim levels including a new cut-price option. With a starting price of £10,085 for the three-door hatch, the new Focus Studio is aimed at the increasing number of bargain rivals. The five-door will cost £11,495 and both are powered by the 80bhp 1.4-litre petrol engine. The cheapest estate (right) will cost £12,845, and have 100bhp 1.6-litre power. The low prices are justified by reduced standard specifications. Focus Studios do without curtain airbags, remote central locking – even a low fuel level warning light – and roll on 15in steel wheels. But as with all Focuses, standard equipment includes front and side airbags, ISOFIX child-seat mountings, an immobiliser, anti-lock brakes, and electric front windows. Moving up the range, there are the familiar LX, Zetec and Ghia trims. A five-door 1.6-litre TDCi Zetec, with its body-coloured door handles, trip computer, leather wheel and 16in alloys, pitches in at £14,995, or £15,295 with a six-speed ’box. The estate costs between £850 and £1350 more than a five-door.

There are also two other new trims; Sport, in between LX and Zetec trim, and Titanium that, with a premium audio system, 16in alloys and an air-conditioned glove box will hope to take the fight to the VW Golf on its own territory, from as much as £18,625 for a 2.0-litre TDCi Estate.
