The model celebrates the original Volkswagen T1, with two-tone red and white paintwork and retro-styled 18in DISC alloys carried over from the Beetle.

The only available engine is a 2.0 TDI coupled to a seven-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic transmission and with two power outputs: an entry-level set-up producing 148bhp and a more punchy 201bhp unit.

The Generation Six spec adds Alcantara and leather seats, tinted rear windows, upgraded floor mats, a leather-covered steering wheel, Adaptive Cruise Control and an infotainment system with integrated navigation, Bluetooth and DAB radio. Climate control with heated front seats and three-zone air conditioning is also included, along with brushed metal and coloured spec-specific interior trim, which matches the exterior.

Prices start at £52,051 for the 148bhp and £54,547 for the 201bhp versions. Volkswagen is already taking orders for the Generation Six, with first deliveries due in November.

The Transporter, which was revealed at the Amsterdam motor show in April, can carry up to nine people. The Caravelle MPV, first seen at the Istanbul motor show in May, can carry six occupants and luggage in a greater degree of luxury; prices start at £23,440 for the Transporter and £36,011 for the Caravelle. The four-berth California camper van completed the range upon its release in June, and is priced from £37,657 for the entry-level Beach model. Both cars come with a choice of 2.0-litre diesel engines, ranging in power from 83bhp to 201bhp.The Transporter comes with Bluetooth and DAB+ digital radio as standard, while the Caravelle SE adds Bluemotion technology, a 5.0in touchscreen, a USB connection and a post-collision braking system. The Caravelle Executive model adds heated leather seats and larger, 17in alloy wheels. A Business Edition brings a high level of luxury for the rear cabin, with swivelling rear seats, a table, an integrated fridge, voice-activated Bluetooth and wi-fi. It costs from £57,305.The options list includes automatic tailgate operation. This will make life easier for owners, given that the tailgate is nearly two metres high when open.Volkswagen has made a range of safety equipment available on the Caravelle, too. Buyers can specify adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking and a driver alert system.

Stinky.

I think the Stinky Car Group Gmbh will have a lot of trouble shifting any type of car/van/pushchair in the future. All very embarrassing.

I don't really understand why

I don't really understand why VW doesn't propose a neo-retro combi with its brand image.

Although this Transporter

Although this Transporter looks clean and decent enough, it's a shame that VW doesn't put the Microbus concept or the Bulli into production. Both are great designs and the blank vertical front looks great on them. And there is no need for VW to apply the horizontal design theme to every model.
