Toughened four-wheel-drive small SUV gets three engines, styling tweaks and upgraded equipment

Skoda has shown the Skoda Karoq Scout — a more off-road-friendly version of the Karoq, its Nissan Qashqai rival — at the Paris motor show

The Karoq Scout gets four-wheel drive as standard and, in line with other Scout models in the Czech brand’s line-up, hardy styling and additional equipment over the standard car. 

It’ll be launched with three engine options — a 148bhp 1.5-litre petrol engine and a 2.0-litre diesel with 148bhp or 187bhp. The lower-powered diesel is the only one to get a manual gearbox as an option. 

On the outside, the Karoq Scout is marked out by a metallic rear bumper, scuff plates and sump guard. The model gets 18in wheels as standard, with 19in alloy wheels an option, as well as exclusive badging and tinted windows. 

The interior also has exclusive touches; the seat upholstery gets bespoke Scout badging and brown highlights to illustrate that it's a more all-terrain variant. It features the Virtual Cockpit digital dials set-up as standard, as well as in-car wi-fi. 

Prices have yet to be revealed, but it’ll carry a premium over SE L trim in the Karoq range. Skoda charges an additional £2295 for the Kodiaq Scout over the Kodiaq SE L, so a price of above £27,600 is likely for the cheapest, DSG-equipped petrol-engined Karoq Scout, since the Karoq SE L starts at £25,820.

Karoq

I’ve seen a couple of Karoqs recently.  I had to look several times to work out what they were.  The Karoq is the most boring, bland, instantly forgettable car I have ever seen.  (And I speak as someone who is a proud Skoda owner).

So a 1.5tsi with 4wd and DSG?

Why can't we have that setup in
non scout models then? Its exactly what I want.
Not sure I am willing to pay for in effect a couple of grand of extra plastic trim to get it.

It would also be useful to know the CO2 of this setup. The 2wd tsi DSG just scrapes below 130 usefully, 4wd probably takes it over unfortunately.

Milking the Scout badge

I have an Octavia Scout, the logic being that I need 4x4 and increased ground clearance when I go skiing in the mountains. I really wanted a Superb Scout but VAG put a stop to Skoda launching it as it would tread on the Allroad's A6 toes, strange as the Octavia Scout competes with the A4 Allroad.

But an SUV is an SUV and shouldn't need scouting up as opposed to a normal estate car.
