The Skoda Rapid Spaceback will be priced from £14,340 when it goes on sale next January.
Five engines will be available from launch, starting with a 1.2-litre TSI petrol developing either 85bhp or 104bhp. A 1.4-litre TSI petrol will also be available with 120bhp.
The diesel range consists of a 1.6-litre TDI in either 89bhp or 104bhp guise. Skoda expects this engine, in 89bhp form, to be the biggest seller in the range, taking almost 30 per cent of sales in the UK. CO2 emissions range from 104 to 134g/km.
Prices start at £14,340 for the 1.2-litre TSI in standard S trim. Standard equipment on the Rapid Spaceback includes air conditioning, tyre pressure monitoring, 15-inch steel wheels and front electric windows.
A Greentech option, which adds stop-start functionality and a brake energy-recovery system, is available on all trim levels.
SE trim models add 15-inch alloy wheels, rear-parking sensors, cruise control, a centre armrest and a trip computer. Top-spec Elegance trim gives the Rapid Spaceback 16-inch alloy wheels and climate control.
Destined to compete both with established estate models like the Hyundai i30 Tourer, Kia Cee’d Sportwagon and Volkswagen Golf estate, and also the regular hatchback versions of those cars - the Rapid Spaceback measures 4304mm long by 1706mm wide with a height of 1459mm. The car offers 415 litres of storage space with the seats up, increasing to 1380 litres with the seats down.
