New Ultima Evolution models now on sale, replacing the record-breaking GTR and Can-Am and offering up to 1020bhp from GM-sourced V8 engines

Ultima has revealed its latest sports car, the Evolution. Available in both coupé and convertible forms, the newest Ultima offers up to 1020bhp in its most powerful form.

Acting as a replacement for the Ultima GTR and Ultima Can-Am models, the Evolution is already on sale with the first customer deliveries planned for September

While keeping Ultima’s Le Mans-inspired styling, the British firm says the Evolution gets new LED lights, lightweight forged alloy wheels, an infotainment system with satellite navigation and Bluetooth, and an improved chassis.

Power for the Evolution comes from a Chevrolet V8 LS engine, with outputs ranging from 350bhp up to 1020bhp. In total, 15 different power outputs are offered.

In its most extreme form, weighing just 950kg and with 1020bhp coming from a 6.8-litre supercharged V8, Ultima says the Evolution can reach 60mph in 2.3sec and 100mph in 4.9sec, while going on to a top speed of over 240mph. Power is channelled through a Porsche-sourced six-speed manual gearbox.

Ultima said: “The Evolution takes the Ultima to even greater levels of fit, finish, quality and performance. The Evolution is a vastly improved and modernised car in every sense compared to the GTR and Can-Am, and makes an awesome package.

"Many of the enhancements found on the new Ultima Evolution have been stimulated by worldwide customer demand and feedback.”

Prices for factory-built Ultima vehicles start at £65,995, although the car is also available as a self-build kit.

Autocar please test this!

I feel Ultima always gets neglected and actually wondered recently if they had gone out of business. If they were Italian I'm sure they would get plenty of column inches. Please Autocar, try and arrange a test drive. I mean they reckon they are looking at 6.30 around the 'Ring. Radical get plenty of coverage, why so little for good old Ultima? The car looks amazing, especially the open top.

Fully agree. These are fabulous cars and cost a fraction of their rivals prices. Please get on this, Autocar!

How will they have space to push JLR products if they give over column inches to esoteric stuff like this?

Now, now... VAG can't do anything wrong, either. ;-)
