2767 Vauxhall Corsas are being recalled due to a risk of fires; problem is unrelated to Zafira fires recall

The Vauxhall Corsa is being recalled in 1.4 Turbo guise; the recall affects 2767 previous-generation Corsas built between 2006 and 2014.

Vauxhall is recalling the model due to the risk of fires caused by a short circuit in the Vacuum Pump Relay Box, if water reaches the part.

Affected cars are equipped with the 1.4-litre turbocharged engine, they incldue all Black Edition cars and a few SE and SRi-spec cars. The Black Edition can be identified by its exclusive two-tone alloy wheels. Vauxhall was keen to stress that no other Corsa variants are affected aside from those listed.

The recall is in no way related to the considerable recall of Zafira models from earlier this year, which was also in reaction to a spate of fires, but for a separate fault.

Vauxhall says the fault has caused only two fires in Corsas, and that the recall is a precautionary measure.

Corsa fires will be the subject of a segment on the BBC’s Watchdog programme this evening, after an investigation was carried out by the Watchdog team into one of the fires. Vauxhall identified the cause of the problem when it investigated the other fire.

Vauxhall advises customers who are concerned that their car might be affected to contact its customer care team on 0800 026 0867.

Surprised at the cause of the fire, I was expecting it to be due to aftermarket Fandago oversized exhausts melting the rear bumper until it ignites.
