Currently reading: Volkswagen reveals Up R-Line package

R-Line pack has been applied to the smallest VW, adding sporty exterior elements

Volkswagen has released an R-Line package for the Volkswagen Up, as it further expands the reach of the £9325 city car following the success of the Up GTI micro hot hatch.

The package adds trim across the car’s exterior including a revised front bumper, side sills, a silver strip in the grille, R-Line badging, a black roof and mirror caps and tinted windows.

It draws inspiration from the Up GTI, and is being offered for the first time since the model entered production in 2011.

Also offered in the pack are 16in or 17in alloys, the latter of which commanding a premium over the standard 16in wheels.

The pack starts at €795 in Europe but will not be offered in the UK, with Volkswagen UK being "happy with the Up product range as it stands". Despite the firm’s prolific R brand spreading to SUVs, Volkswagen has previously told Autocar that an R-badged Up would not happen, as R models are four-wheel drive only.

This means that a Polo R is also not on the cards. A T-Roc R is imminent, and has been spotted numerous times in development. A T-Cross R is not expected, as that model is less likely to be given an all-wheel-drive powertrain.
