Citroen's radical concept will make production within the next three years

Citroen’s radical Lacoste car, a Paris show debutant, will make production within the next three years.

Many elements of the concept will make it on to the final model, although it won’t be an open-top.

In effect a sister car to the Peugeot
BB1 — which will be badged ‘2009’ for production — the Lacoste will be based on a shortened and widened Mitsubishi i platform that PSA Peugeot Citroën is also using for its Citroën C-Zero and Peugeot
iOn electric cars.

The two cars will be built at one of the PSA plants capable of producing low-volume models alongside mainstream vehicles.

These include Rennes in France, where the Citroën C6 and Peugeot 407 Coupé are currently built on the low-volume facility, and Vigo in Spain.

Company insiders report that the collaboration between PSA and Mitsubishi will continue to deepen, particularly in the area of electric cars and hybrids, as well as engine sharing.

Peugeot and Citroën will also each launch a smaller SUV based on the Mitsubishi ASX in 2012.

Well I think most of it is pretty production-viable, apart from the roof obviously. I think it'll look great... I just hope they don't water the rest of it down too much!

It's very hard for me to imagine just what parts of this 'car' will make it through to production. None I hope - it looks like a Fisher-Price toy. Vile
