Modern and historic highlights from the Pebble Beach event so far, including the public debut of the production Porsche 918 Spyder and one of five Ferrari 288 GTO Evoluziones

The 2013 Pebble Beach extravaganza is underway in the US, and has already been the site of several high-profile reveals from manufacturers in the build up to the main event, the Concours d'Elegance.

Spyker's open-top B6 Venator concept has already been revealed at the show, with a production version slated for 2014.

The aluminium rear-drive, two-seater sports car uses the same 375bhp-plus mid-mounted V6 and six-speed automatic gearbox from the coupé version, which was first seen at the Geneva motor show earlier this year.

Likewise, the BMW M4 concept has had its debut at the event. The concept provides a thinly-disguised look at the fortcoming production car, which is expected to cost around £60,000 when it goes on sale in the middle of next year.

Bugatti has provided one of the more niche concepts for the Concours, showcasing the first of six special editions of its Grand Sport Vitesse inspired by the people who shaped the company. The first model in the range, dubbed Bugatti Legends, celebrates Jean-Pierre Wimile. The racing driver won two victories for Bugatti at the Le Mans 24 Hours, once in 1937 and again in 1939.

Bentley is also celebrating its Le Mans heritage with a special edition of the Mulsanne at the show. The Le Mans Limited Edition Mulsanne features options inspired by the brand's best racing drivers, including diamond-quilted seat covers and door panels as well as drilled-alloy foot pedals.

In a move which shows the rising importance of Pebble Beach, Aston Martin has chosen it as the global debut for its new V12 Vanquish Volante. The £200,000 car has its debut alongside the 2015 V12 Vantage S and Aston's CC100 Speedster concept.

Thanks very much for up-dating this gallery with captions. There are a couple of cars there that I have never even heard of ! .... and one or two that I had guesses at - and got wrong. I've really enjoyed looking through your recent galleries, so thanks for doing them and for all the work it must take to compile them.

I was just about to post comments along the lines of "What a shame you havn't added descriptive captions !" when I logged on and saw the comment from jason_recliner with whom it would be difficult to disagree. Please bear in mind that not all of us who appreciate looking at these beautiful and interesting machines have the same encylopeadic knowledge that you experts at Autocar have bouncing arund in your heads, or indeed the 100+ years of Autocar's archive to help us remember.

Thanks all the same for a super gallery.

Thanks for the lovely gallery.  In future, however, are you able to provide more detailed captions please?  Some of the vintage stuff looks amazing, but I have no idea what I'm looking at!
