The Subaru WRX concept has made its European debut at the Frankfurt motor show.
Although not officially confirmed for the UK market, Subaru says changing conditions has lead it to 're-examine' its initial decision to not bring the car to this country.
The car was first shown at the New York motor show earlier this year. The four-door design is in keeping with WRX cars from the past, and like them the new car will get turbocharged power and all-wheel-drive grip. At 4521mm long, the WRX is comparable in length to the current WRX STI saloon, but is nearly 100mm wider and much lower than the current model.
No information on engines, gearbox options or pricing has yet been announced.
The car has been shown alongside another Subaru crossover concept, the Viziv, which the company says represents its future design direction. First seen in Geneva, the two-door crossover concept uses a plug-in hybrid system and a continuously variable transmission.

Not for Subaru UK.
Subaru UK have already stated they're a 4x4 company. Yes, that's right they're only interested in SUVs.
As a previous Subaru owner it came a bit of a surprise to say the least. I'm sure my WRX was a saloon car. I wouldn't have taken it off on some mucky field; it certainly didn't have the tyres for it! Nor could I load a bike or dog in the rear boot. SSPCA would have complained if I had; poor pup.
In short, the biggest obstacle to Subaru's success in the UK is Subaru UK.

Not neccessarily. Nissan became a 4x4 company, and they've gone from strength to strength. The UK are obsessed with SUVs. I'm not sure if it is American culture or some sort of playground Mutually Assured Destruction to see who has the biggest tank, but if a car company is looking to sell, they sell SUVs. Dacia, starting off, made sure the Duster was on the books. Even the Sandero got an SUV variant in the Stepway.
Mitsubishi did the same. They dropped the slow selling Galant, dropped the Lancer saloon and later quietly axed the Lancer hatch in the UK. They offer a range of 4x4s as this is what the UK market demands.
And it's GO GO GO!!!!!!!!

If they drop the back doors on this concept it'd be the stunning bigger brother to the BRZ.
