Skoda has embarked on a new model explosion to double its line-up by 2011

The first new model out of the traps will be the Skoda Yeti SUV, which will make its public debut at the London motor show in July. Company insiders say that its looks will stick closely to the concept car and it will be built on a platform closely related to the Volkswagen Tiguan. It will also use many of the Tiguan's engine options and its four-wheel-drive technology.High-level Skoda sources have also revealed to Autocar that a new small saloon is in the pipeline and due to be launched next year. Insiders described it as stylish and similar in size to the original Octavia. This all-new model will be built on a new platform and will probably share archictecture with a similar saloon being designed by VW for the US market. The Skoda model was originally intended for Eastern Europe and developing markets only, but Skoda now has intentions to sell it in Western Europe as well.Other models waiting in the wings for 2010 include a Skoda version of the next Sharan seven-seat MPV, the first time the Czechs have had such an offering. Around the same time we'll also see an estate version of the recently launched Superb. But we'll have to wait until at least 2011 before the most exciting model of all: Skoda's version of the rear-engined up! city car. The Czechs are heavily involved with the global baby car project and will supply the three-cylinder engines for the entire group. The Skoda will have unique styling and is likely to come in two and four-seater guises.A completely overhauled Roomster is also due in 2011. It will be be built on the same platform and offer the same practicality, but will have an all-new look to counter fears from some Skoda high-ups that the quirky design of the current car is limiting sales.
