Have you checked out the list of cars coming in 2018? If you have, you'll know why the industry needs to make room by saying goodbye to some older models, so here are the cars that were axed in 2017.
Some were inevitable departures, some will be greatly missed and some were doomed from the start. We'll let you decide which car belongs in which camp.
Which car will you miss the most? Let us know in the comments below.
Audi A3 three-door - introduced in 1996
The Audi A3 was discontinued in three-door form this year, while the five-door Sportback lives on.
The three-door has been offered since 1996 but, with a Audi more popular saloon already bucking the anti-saloon trend and a liftback variant planned, the industry’s culling of three-door hatchbacks claimed this version of the A3.
Cause of demise: industry shift to five-door models
BMW 6 Series - introduced in 1976 and 2004
The 6 Series as we know it is no longer with us but will live on indirectly in 2018 as the 8 Series. Meanwhile, 6 Series badging is now applied to the former 5 Series GT, which will now become the BMW 6 Series GT.

How about a 5 Series coupe? What could it be called though.....
With Mercedes and Audi all having exec class coupes (E Class, CLS and A7) I'm surprised BMW hasn't gone down that route with a coupe version of the 5 Series, which could have used the 6 Series nameplate in the same way the 2 Series is to the 1 Series, the 4 with the 3 and the new 8 Series will be to the 7 Series. Previous 6 Series, while being based on the 5 Series, have been standalone GTs which also explained the large price gap between it and the 5 Series. And perhaps explained its demise as looking at it, it just appeared to be a traditonal coupe version of a BMW saloon but with a hefty price, lacking the panache and style normally associated with a Grand Tourer.
Do your research
The 6 Series Is a coupe version of the F10 5 Series. It just costs a whole lot more than if it was badged as a 5 Series coupe.
So the electric Merc has gone?
Hardly a wonder! It may be a worthy car BUT (BIG but!) who in their right mind would buy a second-hand one? Obsolete technology already, brick-like depreciation now, let alone further down the road...
Electric cars have a future but it is far away over many hills yet...
Firstly - Happy Christmas
And good helath safe motoring and stay sober !
Now to the list of chopped. Good to see much of them go to be honest. Maybe the Sirocco a bit sad because I never really understood why it didnt sell so well, but thats the fickle public who have so many choices. Great to see the back of all the Citroens - wish they would take some of the new nes with them !
The Auris - really sick of this name - what happenbed to those wonderful reliable lovable great cars called Corolla GTi -both the RWD and even the FWD 1.6 -16valve cars were staples for the rally men - and they won the WRC more than once! Bring back the name and they will increase sales - but it would help if it didnt resemble a fridge!
Saddest of all - The Yeti. The face lift it got watered down way too much the intial love and pleasure of seeing it. I do also remember Autocar readers at the time slamming me for loving it when introduced. Go eat humble pie you lot - and a mince pie too if you like
