Currently reading: Mini Convertible gets supercharged

Mini has had a busy week, unveiling the new Cooper S Convertible, facelifting the entire hatch range and raising prices by an average 2.5 per cent. This is the first official picture of the new range-topping supercharged Convertible, which will cost £17,595 when sales start in August.

Minor tweaks to the front-end styling introduced on the soft-top will spread to Mini hatchbacks, too. Exterior changes are limited to new front and rear bumpers and clear-lens headlights, while the cabin receives numerous small changes, including improved seats. The Mini One also gets a rev counter.

What the pictures don’t show is that Cooper S models now have 170bhp and 162lb ft of torque, up 7bhp and 7lb ft, raising the top speed to 138mph and cutting the 0-60mph time to 7.2sec.

The Mini Cooper and One also lose their Rover gearboxes, gaining a five-speed Getrag item.
