A concept for a second amphibious car from Gibbs Technology will make its world debut at next month’s British Motor Show.
The design will have an all-new composite body, likely to include a closed cockpit and space for four adults.
‘This will be a completely new body design, owing nothing to the Aquada,’ said design chief Stephen Bailey. ‘It will be something new and fresh.’
Under a composite body will be a version of the Aquada’s bonded and riveted alloy frame and K-series V6 engine and ’box, driving the wheels on road and patented jet thrusters on water.
The wheels will fold away to allow the amphibian to swim, using the same hydraulic pistons as the three-seater, open-top Aquada. Gibbs claims it has ‘30-40’ orders for the £150,000 Aquada and the first deliveries are expected in May.
